Jesus is given over 100 names and titles throughout the Scriptures…and none is more significant, nor does one bring more comfort to the human soul than “Immanuel”. No wonder the angels shouted, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men.” Immanuel–God with us–is something to shout about!
He is Immanuel…in your brightest moments and darkest hour.
He is Immanuel…in your hope and fear.
He is Immanuel…among friends & family and when you feel alone.
He is Immanuel…at the moment you want to give in or give up.
He is Immanuel…in your victory and in your failure.
He is Immanuel…in everything.
All the truths of Christmas can be stated in just 3 simple words: God With Us!
Far too often our focus at Christmas is on the human birth of Jesus. We sing songs about his humble beginnings in a manger. We place a ceramic baby Jesus on our mantel. We even reenact the nativity at our churches. Yet, our greater focus should be on His deity…who He really is…”God With Us!” At Christmas, we have the opportunity to find renewed hope and joy in the overwhelming love of a God who is with us.
In the middle of all life’s circumstances, you can draw close to a God who is with you. And you can celebrate—celebrate the fact that you’ve been given the greatest gift of all: Immanuel, God with us. Immanuel, God with you.
