From the end of the earth I call to you
when my heart is faint.
Lead me to the rock
that is higher than I
We’ve all been overwhelmed. Maybe right now, you’re facing a personal crisis and an uncertain future. Often times in our parenting, our marriage, and our ministry we need to see beyond what’s right in front of us to see the preferred future God has for us. We can get so blinded by the issues we are currently facing that we can’t see the bigger picture.
What we need is a new perspective…a higher vantage point to see beyond our problems and to catch a vision of what can be (not just what is). That’s exactly what was going on in David’s life when he wrote the Psalm. He was seeking God’s help in times of trouble. He was overwhelmed so he prayed. He asked God to lead him to a rock that is higher than his current reality so he could see beyond the issues he was facing.
This is such a great prayer for parents, spouses, and leaders: Lord, lead me to a place that is higher than me. Help me to see beyond the present. Help me to catch a glimpse of the bigger picture.
