As followers of Christ, we must take personal responsibility to grow in our relationship with God. The truth is that spiritual growth doesn’t just happen. It involves the intentional practice of spiritual rhythms to help you connect with God on a regular basis.
When it comes to my relationship with God, I have daily, weekly, monthly, and annual rhythms to help me grow.
DAILY CONNECTION
First of all, I practice connecting with God on a daily basis. I begin my day with my Bible and a journal for Scripture reading, prayer, and journaling. Currently I’m using a daily Bible reading plan from YouVersion to read through the Bible this year.
WEEKLY DEVOTION
Secondly, I practice a weekly devotion. This is an extended time each week that I devote to extended study and prayer. I am currently doing an in depth study of the book of Colossians and the supremacy of Christ.
MONTHLY WITHDRAWAL
Third, my goal is get away monthly for a day or 1⁄2 day of prayer and worship. I usually enjoy connecting with God in His creation as a way to align myself with His agenda for my life and ministry.
ANNUAL RETREAT
Finally, my goal is to set an personal annual retreat. This is where I examine myself to see where God is leading me to grow in the coming year. It helps me set priorities and plans for my personal growth.
There’s nothing magical about my personal spiritual rhythms. The key is to discover what works for you. How are you growing spiritually? What are your personal rhythms for connecting with God?
